Tutorial: Tie-Dye

Have you ever tie-dyed a shirt?  Well, how about a sweatshirt?  Seriously, not that easy.

Every year I take part in Race For The Cure with my friend and her family.  We didn't get shirts this past year, and my friend had the brilliant idea to tie-dye sweatshirts.... at 10pm.  That's past my bedtime, and we didn't finish until the wee, wee hours of the morning.

My friend and I have always talked about tie-dying but never really got the chance.  We weren't sure how to go about it.  I found some how-to posts that were really great.

What you'll need:

*t-shirts / sweatshirts
*rubber bands (heavy duty rubber bands if using a sweatshirt)
*bucket
*dye - powder or liquid (We used liquid Rit Dye.)
*water
*rubber gloves
*measuring spoons
*spray bottle filled with water
*salt

These are the links we used:

The video was amazing.  It helped us out a bunch.  If you choose to do the spiral design, we learned that laying the wrapped shirt flat in the dye gives you the best result.  We didn't learn this until the very last sweatshirt, though.  We might try it again sometime.
