Jewelry Cleaning Tips

This is for those of you who have asked about cleaning jewelry.

One of the best products you can get for yourself is a container of Connoisseurs Jewelry Wipes.  These will brighten up chains and charms instantly.

Another great product:  baking soda.  Most "home product" cleaning techniques are not good for your jewelry.  Baking soda, on the other hand, is amazing for silver.  In my metalsmithing classes, that's all we used for cleaning. You just need an old toothbrush or sponge to gently scrub the jewelry.  You don't want to try this technique on anything with gemstones, though.

Other Tips:
If you notice that your jewelry tends to tarnish easily, you may not be storing it properly.  Some people like to display their jewelry, but air and humidity affect the metal.  Keep your jewelry in a box or in individual bags.  Also, lotions and perfumes affect metal, so make sure those things have soaked into your skin before putting on jewelry.
