Rescuing Sea Turtles

Last month, my family and I traveled to Mexico for my brother's wedding.  The first evening we were there, my brother and his now wife were eager to show us something.  We walked down the beach to a sea turtle hatchery.  Each night, baby sea turtles are released into the water, and we got to take part in it.

If we found any of the turtles hatching during the morning, we were instructed to take them over to the hatchery to be released in the evening.  During the day, the babies could die from dehydration or be spotted by predators and not make it to the water.  We did find a few nests and took the turtles that survived to the hatchery.  One morning, some kids were digging up the nests and throwing the turtles in the water.  Luckily, we were able to save most of them.

Have you ever had a really amazing and unexpected experience during a vacation?
