Volunteer Artist

In August, I started volunteering at our local library.  I had initially signed up to just help out with events or special projects.  When the library found out about my art background, they had other plans for me.

The first project that I worked on was for a Percy Jackson party in the children's area.  I'm a huge fan and collector of children's literature, but I hadn't heard of this series.  In order to prepare, I read The Lost Hero from the Heroes of Olympus series.  I thought the book was really great, and it gave me an insight in to the world of Camp Half-Blood

In the photo above, you can see the eight banners that I created for the party.  Each banner was over 3 feet tall and made to look like old scrolls.  I had so much fun with this.  Unfortunately, I was out of the country the week of the party.  It would have been great to see the library transformed.

The library is also teaching the Thriller dance for the Thrill the World event.  I came up with a few design pieces for a bulletin board.  Notice my zombie Michael Jackson?  While I was gone, one of the librarians put in together for me.  I thought it was so nice of her.

Do you volunteer?
